Österreicher e.K.: IT System House Enables Remote Printing for 350+ SMB Clients Without VPNs

Österreicher e.K. supports the IT infrastructure of 350+ SMBs across Germany, where remote printing used to mean VPN tunnels, PDF workarounds, and a steady stream of driver-related tickets. With ezeep, they manage cloud printing across their entire client base from one place, with almost no ongoing admin work.

Remote Printing for an IT System House Serving 350+ Businesses

When you manage the IT infrastructure for over 350 small and medium-sized businesses, enabling remote printing across client environments is not a one-time problem. It is a recurring challenge that comes up with nearly every client engagement. And the available options were not good: either unreliable cloud printing solutions from manufacturers, or costly VPN tunnels that added complexity to every deployment.

The Challenge

Printing in remote locations caused a significant amount of administrative work, reports Stefan Schaub, Head of Technology and Support at Österreicher e.K. Branch offices needed to print, but connecting printers across locations meant either setting up VPN tunnels for every site or relying on workarounds like PDF printers and email. Neither approach was scalable across the hundreds of SMB environments the company supports.

The Solution

ezeep replaced the VPN-based workarounds entirely. Printers outside client networks are now connected through ezeep's cloud, and the central management console allows the team to distribute printers across locations without touching individual machines. Driver management, previously a constant source of support tickets, is handled by ezeep automatically.

"Features that you usually only get with a print server are built into the solution," says Stefan Schaub, Head of Technology and Support. "Except for the one-time setup, we have hardly any admin work to do. Central management allows us to distribute printers, and we also no longer have any worries with printer drivers."

From the end-user perspective, the transition was seamless. Users do not notice any difference between local and cloud printers, and the same workflows apply since ezeep presents a normal print object in their applications. The old workaround of printing to PDF and emailing documents to a branch office is no longer necessary.

"With ezeep, we have found a solution that is easy to administer and requires almost no maintenance. We were able to reduce the support effort for printing in branches and optimize the workflows."

The Outcome

VPN tunnels that were only maintained for printing have been decommissioned. The support effort for printing in branch offices has been reduced, and workflows across client environments are cleaner and more reliable.

Why It Matters

For managed service providers and IT system houses, printing is a recurring pain point when supporting clients with remote workers and branch offices. VPN-based approaches add complexity and ongoing support burden. ezeep gives MSPs a tool they can deploy across their entire client base with minimal setup, eliminating a category of support work that otherwise scales linearly with every new client.
