Pull Printing: Every Document Collected, Nothing Left Behind

Print jobs stay in the cloud until the user walks to any printer and authenticates. Documents only print when someone is there to pick them up. No wasted pages. No exposed confidential documents. No more "who left this on the tray" moments.

Why It Exists

Why Shared Printers Are a Security and Waste Problem

The problem isn't printing. It's what happens after the job leaves the queue.

Traditional Secure Print Requires Vendor-Specific Middleware

Most manufacturer secure print solutions require embedded apps on the printer, limiting you to a single brand. Mixed fleets mean multiple secure print systems running in parallel, or no secure print at all.

How It Works

Three Steps. Any Printer. Any Device.

Print from any device to a single virtual queue called AnyPrinter by ezeep. Walk to any printer. Authenticate. Done.

Print to the Cloud Queue

Pull Printing works across your entire fleet without installing software on printers or requiring manufacturer-specific embedded apps. The job is encrypted and stored in the ezeep Cloud. It doesn't go to any physical printer yet.

2

Walk to Any Printer

The user goes to whichever printer is most convenient. It doesn't have to be a specific device or even a specific location.

3

Authenticate and Release

The user scans the printer's QR code with the ezeep mobile app, or taps an RFID/NFC card on the ezeep Hub's card reader. The job prints immediately. Only that job, only for that user. Because jobs are stored in the cloud, not on the user's workstation, they stay available even if the user closes their laptop, switches devices, or travels to a different office.

Authentication

QR Code or Card. Your Choice.

Both methods work across any printer brand. Choose the one that fits your environment, or use both.

QR Code via Mobile App

Users open the ezeep app on their phone, select the job, and scan the QR code posted on the printer. No additional hardware is needed beyond a printed sticker on the device. This method also works for guests and visitors who don't have a corporate badge, making it a natural fit for offices, coworking spaces, campuses, and multi-tenant environments.

sample-5

RFID / NFC Card via ezeep Hub

Users tap their existing employee badge, access card, or any NFC-enabled card on a reader connected to the ezeep Hub. First-time use prints an activation code to pair the card with the user's account. This method is ideal for fast-paced environments like healthcare, warehouses, and production floors where pulling out a phone isn't practical.

Use Cases

Built for Environments Where Documents Matter

Pull Printing is most valuable where printers are shared and documents are sensitive.

sample-k6vu1

Offices and Corporate Headquarters

Shared MFPs on every floor serve multiple departments. Pull Printing ensures HR, legal, and finance documents don't sit exposed on open trays. Users release only their own jobs, so nothing gets mixed up or left behind.

sample-k6vu1

Healthcare and Clinics

Patient records, prescriptions, and lab results require confidentiality at every output point. Pull Printing ensures protected health information is only released to authenticated staff, supporting HIPAA requirements in hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.

sample-k6vu1

Legal and Financial Services

Confidential contracts, filings, and financial statements require controlled output at every stage. Pull Printing ensures only the authenticated user collects the document, supporting compliance in environments subject to SOX, PCI-DSS, and privilege protections.

sample-k6vu1

Coworking Spaces

Members from different companies share the same printers, which means documents from competing businesses can end up in the same tray. Pull Printing keeps each member's output private and prevents abandoned jobs from piling up.

sample-k6vu1

Education and Campus

Students and faculty share high-volume printers across buildings and libraries. Pull Printing reduces uncollected waste and lets users release jobs at whichever printer is closest to their next class, meeting, or study session.

Multi-Site and Branch Offices

Organizations with printers across locations get consistent secure release behavior everywhere without installing middleware at each site. The ezeep Hub handles authentication at remote offices with no on-site IT required.

Why Use It

What Changes When You Turn On Pull Printing

Less waste. Better security. Fewer support tickets.
Secure Release

Set Up in Minutes, Not Days

Pull Printing is a policy toggle in the ezeep admin portal. Enable it, assign the AnyPrinter queue to your user groups, and attach a QR code to each printer. That's it.

For RFID/NFC authentication, connect a card reader to the ezeep Hub. Users pair their cards on first use with a one-time activation code. No middleware, no embedded printer apps, no per-device configuration.

Pull Printing is available on Business and Enterprise plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about how it all works? Here's everything you wanted to know about ezeep's cloud printing solution!

What is Pull Printing?

Pull Printing (also called Secure Release Printing or Follow-Me Printing) holds print jobs in a secure cloud queue instead of sending them directly to a printer. The document only prints when the user walks to a physical printer and authenticates via QR code scan or RFID/NFC card tap. This ensures that output is always collected by the person who sent it, eliminates uncollected waste, and prevents confidential documents from sitting exposed on shared trays.

Does Pull Printing require special hardware or embedded apps on printers?

No. Pull Printing works with any network printer regardless of manufacturer. QR code release requires no hardware at all, just a printed QR code sticker on the device. RFID/NFC release requires an ezeep Hub with a connected card reader. No embedded apps, firmware changes, or vendor-specific middleware is needed on the printer itself. The one exception is the ezeep App for Lexmark, which enables native Pull Printing directly on Lexmark MFP touchscreens.

Can users release print jobs at a different location than where they sent them?

Yes. This is the core of Follow-Me Printing. A user can send a job from their laptop at headquarters and release it at a branch office printer, or send it from home and pick it up at the office. Jobs are stored in the cloud for 72 hours, so they follow the user across devices and locations. Unreleased jobs are automatically deleted after the retention window.

How does ezeep Pull Printing compare to vendor-specific secure print solutions?

Most manufacturer-specific secure print solutions (like Xerox Secure Print or HP Smart Device Services) require embedded apps or firmware on the printer, limiting Pull Printing to a single brand. ezeep's Pull Printing works across HP, Xerox, Lexmark, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Epson, and any other supported brand from a single cloud queue. One authentication method covers the entire fleet, regardless of manufacturer.

Which ezeep plans include Pull Printing?

Pull Printing is available on Business and Enterprise plans. It is enabled as a group policy toggle in the ezeep admin portal and assigned to specific user groups. Print Later, which lets users queue jobs and release them at a convenient time without the secure authentication step, is available starting from the Pro plan.
